Question from a Dog lover: What fruit to avoid for my darling dog?

You always want to spoil your furry best friend by bring them to Desa Park City, new toys or sharing your favorite snack with them. Adding fruits can be a really healthy way to do that too, however, certain fruits are better for your dogs while some may be dangerous to them.

Below are the list of fruits which should be avoided for your “Wong Choi”.

1. Avocado - Avocados are one of the healthy snack for people. But, the same is not true for dogs. Avocados consist of Persin which are resistant by dogs and most of the animals. Accidentally eating a small bit of avocado fruit probably won’t cause your dog any lasting damage, but best to avoid at all cost.

2. Cherries – No, dogs shouldn’t eat cherries as it contain cyanide and are toxic to dogs. Cyanide will disrupt cellular oxygen transport, which means that your dog’s blood cells can’t get enough oxygen, lead to difficulty in breathing.

3. Grapes – No No No, grape or raisin are highly toxic and fatal to your dog. Ingesting the fruit could potentially lead to sudden kidney failure. According to ASPCA (American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals) Animal Poison Control Center, they received a total of 3,722 calls involving grapes and raisins in 2016.

4. Apple’s core and seeds – Apple are good for dog. Feed them apples in moderation and remove the core and seeds first, as they contain cyanide.

Dogs digest differently than humans, and eating the wrong foods can lead to long-term health problems and, in extreme cases, even death. In general fruits are higher in sugar than vegetables, and thus should be limited in overweight pets.

You should always gradually introduce any new foods to your pet’s diet to avoid any stomach upsets.
